After the spigot end has been lubricated (do not use oil), it is pushed fully into the socket using a slight turning motion. Then the insertion depth is marked with a lead pencil or felt pen and the spigol end is pulled out of the socket approx. 10mm (3/8 inch). This allows for longitudinal thermal expansion. (The coefficient for expansion is 0.8mm per
degree C/meter-approx 0.02 inch per degree F/foot). Fittings are provided with an insertion depth mark.
